So here I am at WordPress, a refugee from Yahoo 360. Last night my problems with Y360’s blogging service came to a head and I am trying out WordPress. WordPress seems like a much more mature blogging product with many of the features I have been looking for.
Among the features I like here are:
- Automatic saving of entries as you type. I lost dozens of entries at Y360 but fortunately learned to make backups as I typed.
- An easy-to-share URL. How much easier can it be than geognerd.wordpress.com?
- Blog stats. Sounds cool, but I haven’t been here long enough to have any stats. If they’re anything like Flickr’s new view and referral stat tools, I’ll be thrilled.
- Quality of appearance. Y360 was OK, but I like the ability to try different themes here that still look kind of professional.
- Anybody can comment. It sounds like anyone can comment on my blog. At Y360 you had to have a Y360 account to comment on someone’s blog. Makes for little dialogue between blogger and reader.
- Portability of blog. WordPress provides an option for an XML export of my blog content. Y360 doesn’t do that. Over time I will be recreating some of my better Y360 blog entries here.
- More of a blogging environment than a social networking environment. Y360 was Yahoo’s take on MySpace and Facebook, which was abandoned for Yahoo Mash, which has been abandoned for who knows what. Its blogging apparatus is OK, but is long in tooth and starting to fall apart. I’m looking more to share my knowledge and opinions. If I meet some people through the commenting mechanism, cool.
There seems to be a bug with the bulleted list. This paragraph is too close to the list and doing stuff to the HTML didn’t help. Had the same problem at Yahoo. I guess I can’t use bulleted lists.
Anyway, here I am starting the new year at a new blogging site. Now I have to get ready to look at Woot to see if they have anything good for New Year’s. Maybe I can score a Bag O’Crap.

Hi there. Welcome to WordPress. You have a nice blog. Easy to read and easy on the eyes.
Sorry to disturb you, but I was wondering if you ever found a way to import you Y360 posts into WordPress. I have been trying to figure out how since OCtober 2007!
I like WordPress to and have two blogs here, but am still trying out how to get my Y360 here without cutting and pasting every blog.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend.

Y360’s product team hasn’t updated their blog since October 2007. I remember reading that they planned to have tools for moving your blog to the new site they were designing. Don’t know if they were going to set it up so you could take you blog anywhere, or if it would only allow transferring to the new site. The lack of updates and status reports caused me to jump ship and join WordPress.
At any rate, I will go back and copy my best entries from Y360. Might re-post a few here, but will at least save them to my PC.
