I got my Logitech laptop mouse from walmart.com last week and have tried it out a couple of times with my Asus Eee. The mouse works pretty well. Lightweight, tracks well, no weird jumping of the cursor around the screen (unlike every other optical mouse I have used). The main reason I picked this mouse is because of the groove in the base of the mouse for stowing the cord. To properly stow the cord, you have to wind the cable tightly around the base and then snap the USB connector into the base of the mouse, covering up the optical sensor. To get the snap to take, the cable has to be very tightly wound and then make a 90-degree turn to get under the mouse. I agree with other reviews that this tight bend may cause the cable to break or fray. The only other beef I have is that the Eee’s Xandros distribution doesn’t recognize panning through a page. You can’t center-click and drag to quickly scroll through a page. Fortunately you can still center-click with the wheel and scroll with the wheel. I got my two Kensington laptop mice with retractable cables from Woot today. I have not opened one to try yet.
I went geocaching for the first time in 6 weeks this weekend. I was able to take some nice train photographs after working on a couple of caches in Aurora. I did a couple of fun easy multis and got in some walking. Out at Jericho Lake I found a container frozen in place with a cracked lid.
On the way home from caching, my low-fuel warning came on in the car. Past experience tells me I have about 100mi of fuel left. I stopped at an intersection with a Shell and a Mobil. I went with Shell because they were a couple of cents cheaper and had their free cleaning cloth offer. Purchase 10 gallons of gas, get a free Shell cleaning cloth. I wasn’t sure if I could buy that much gas. I could only get about 7.7 gallons. No free cloth for me. I went through my records and found that only twice did I ever go over 10 gallons during a fill-up, and those two times were less than a quarter-gallon over 10. Right now, the low-fuel warning comes on sooner because the car’s fuel bladder shrinks in the cold weather.
I’m still working on my blog entry detailing my trip through the Chicago Auto Show. I add a little to it every few days.
