A sigh about the Wind

So I was up past midnight last night, just in case any retailers decided to start selling the MSI Wind at 12AM Central time.  Nobody did.  I used my iPAQ to go online right after my shower this morning to see if NewEgg had it in stock.  Nope.  Dropped Dad off at the train, came back home, turned on the Eee, looked at NewEgg, Amazon, MWave, MSI’s store, and Buy.com.  Nope.

Once at work, I checked all of the retailers at least once every hour to see if the Wind was posted yet.  I was banking on 11AM Central, since that was 9AM Pacific and the opening of business there.  Since most of the e-tailers were West Coast-based, I figured that’s when the Wind would go on sale.

I forget when, but at either 11:30 or 12:30 Central, the MSI Store updated their page.  It was a big downer.  Only the 3-cell battery units were for sale, and they would ship June 27.  I said I would settle for nothing less than the black 6-cell Wind.  At the time of the website update, MSI showed the 6-cell units as being available sometime in July.  I’ll just have to wait a bit longer.  The 6-cell units are no longer listed; I couldn’t find any.  The commentary on the msiwind.net forum was pretty entertaining.  Some folks were so eager to get a Wind, then our emotions were so deflated after finding out only the weakest Winds were being released today.

My mobile computing needs will have to be satisfied by my Eee 701 4G.  It’s not a bad machine, but the Wind is just better.

  1. Sorry about the bad news. Our MSI reps are now quoting July 1st. Just thought I’d give you a heads up straight from the source!

    Thanks,

  2. Thought I’d approve the above comment so others can mark the date on their calendar. Now we know when to expect retailers to begin carrying the MSI Wind.
