About

I’m a geography nerd for a reason. I hold AA, BS, and MS degrees in geography from College of DuPage and Northern Illinois University. By education and training, I am a geographic information systems (GIS) coordinator in regional government in the Chicago suburbs. I also work as a GIS consultant part-time for a regional planning commission. I enjoy using GIS to identify patterns and help solve geographic problems.

Geography has also worked its way into my hobbies. I enjoy geocaching, which is a GPS-based scavenger hunt. The combination of technology and maps have brought this nerd outdoors to discover his surroundings. I geocache under the handle “geognerd.” I also enjoy taking photographs. My best photos can be seen at my Flickr page.

Other interests include motorsports, tech gadgets, computing, news, and politics. I’m slightly left of center politically.

My blog serves as a personal platform for sharing my opinions and knowledge.

I am in my late 20s and reside in Chicago’s northwest suburbs.

  1. I enjoyed all your Geneva Concours photos. FYI, the “unknown” car is a Buffalo-built Pierce-Arrow.

Hope your Prius is smelling sweet again…

  2. Thanks for the identification tip on the Pierce-Arrow. I’ve updated the description accordingly.

  3. Hey Geognerd,

Just writing a message to let you know about a Geospatial event and competition. GeoBase by Telogis is running the first ever GeoBase Technology Summit in Jan 2009 to help spatial enthusiasts like yourself understand and learn about the GeoBase geospatial platform.

Since your blog audience are the type of people who are most likely to want to know about this event we decided we’d run a competition to help spread the word. Being very easy to enter you simply give the summit a mention in a blog post and you go in the draw to win a free Flip Mino.

You can see all the details of the competition here: http://www.geobase.info/summit/geospatial-blog-competition.html

    Thanks for your time!
